ANDREW LOUIS PALMER, SR. CHESTER, NEW YORK Andrew Louis Palmer, Sr., 84, of Chester, NY died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at home in Chester. Andrew was born January 15, 1925 in Chester, NY. He was the son of Andrew John Palmer and Mary Van Rompaye Palmer. Andrew was selected as Man of the Year in1987 by the New York Motor Truck Association, with honors as a pioneer who has been an outstanding figure in his industry. He represented a second generation of leadership in the transportation field. After serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force in World War II, and graduation from Rider College, Andrew joined his father, Andrew, Sr. who had founded the Van Rompaye/Palmer Transportation Company in 1915. Andy became a founding father himself when in 1955 he established L.P. Transportation Inc., thereby opening up an entirely new aspect of transportation, and leading it to its current position as one of the largest carriers of liquefied petroleum gas in the Northeast. In addition, L.P. Transportation, Inc. presently operates as a common carrier of petroleum products in the Hudson Valley and transports liquid cryogenic natural gas throughout the Northeast. Andrew was a lifelong member of St. Columba R.C. Church in his home town of Chester, NY and had involvement with matters of community concern and interest. He was a lifetime resident of Chester, NY. He had been a director of the Arden Hill Hospital Foundation, member of the Town of Chester Planning Board for 39 years, a director of The Key Bank and its predecessor, the Chester National Bank, and an honoree member of The Walton Engine and Hose Fire Company of Chester since 1950. He is survived by his wife Edith P. Palmer at home; children, Mary Talmadge and husband Ted of Chester, Andrew L. Palmer, Jr. of Chester, John A. Palmer of the state of Florida, Richard L. Palmer of Chester, Carolyn D. Palmer of Syracuse, NY, Christopher R. Palmer and wife Nancy of New Hampton, NY and Susan M. Palmer of Chester, NY; sister, Lois Krieger of Chester, NY; 6 grandchildren, Jessica Talmadge, Lindsay, Andrea, Katheryn, Daniel and Nicole Palmer; one great granddaughter, Kendra Leigh and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and daughter, Joanne L. Palmer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Columba R.C. Church, Chester, NY. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Chester, NY. Donations may be made in Andrew's name to St. Columba Church, Rt. 94, Chester, NY 10918.
