Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward W. Kayner The family of Edward W. Kayner is profoundly saddened to share that he passed away Monday, March 13, 2023 at Sapphire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Goshen, NY, with his loving wife, Jeanne by his side. The son of the late Elmer P. Kayner and Mary Balls Kayner, he was born on May 17, 1932 in Port Chester, NY. In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by his daughters, Laurie Kayner Burns of Warwick, NY and Susan McDowell of Goshen, NY. Three grandchildren Caitlyn McDowell (Greg Bartholdi), Meghan Mc Dowell (Keith Hendrickson) and Matthew Burns. In addition, he leaves a sister-in-law, Bonnie Powell and nephews and a niece, Scott McCart, Paul McCart and Lynda McCart MacDonald. He was predeceased by his parents, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Ed went to FE Bellows High School in Mamaraoneck, NY where he excelled in Track, Football and Basketball. He attended Seton Hall College before joining the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War. After the war, Ed had over a 26-year career with the New York State Police, retiring as a Senior Investigator with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. It is here that Ed bonded with and formed lifelong friendships with a group of very special individuals. It is a statement to the strength of these relationships that Ed's family knows that these special people are there for his family in any capacity if needed. After retiring from the New York State Police, Ed had a second career with the Federal Government. He served as Chief of Security for the US Department of Treasury at the US Mint at West Point, NY. During this period of their lives, Ed and Jeanne made many friends and traveled to many wonderful destinations. They continued traveling after retirement and enjoyed their time in Vero Beach, Florida with friends. The family remembers special times with him, including camping trips to Montauk, NY, which became a very special tradition for all of us. We always counted on him to add that extra touch to holidays and events. Having Pizza with Chianti wine with the empty bottles turned into candlesticks. Wearing Christmas socks for his grandchildren and always buying a last-minute gift for them which was typically anything that made the most noise. According to Ed's wishes, there will be a private burial and a remembrance of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward's name to the New York State Police Troopers Memorial Fund, Inc. PO Box 526, Mount Sinai, NY 11766,Alzheimer's Association and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. You may go on the websites for any of these in order to donate. Funeral arrangements were made by Donovan Funeral Home, Goshen, NY.
