I was still a child when I first met Uncle Bill. He was a handsome, charismatic ex-GI, which for a British kid growing up in the countryside was exotic. We loved him from the outset. He was great with kids, generous, and lots of fun. Living a continent away, and later two, sometimes years might pass before I'd see Bill, but we always connected instantly. We shared a love of Nature and wildlife, and when I brought my children to visit he was wonderful with them. I especially remember him showing Bruno how to fish at age 2, taking Brendan canoeing, and carrying Sean, our disabled son, over his shoulder - fireman style - down to the creek in Palenvile. He always made them laugh. Sean loved it when he quacked like a duck. We'll miss him, but the memories we cherish will live on. With our love always. Ros, Steve & Sean

Bill was a very unique and special person to say the least. Michelle and I had some very entertaining chats with Bill. No subject was off limits and Bill shared his thoughts on many subjects with no filter. If you knew Bill then you know what I mean. Bill was also very generous with his time. I mentioned to him I had an ornamental tree I needed to take down and the following Saturday there was Bill helping me take it down laughing and joking the whole time. To really appreciate Bill though you had to play horseshoes in his waterfront horseshoe pits. Beers were shared and his banter was non-stop. Bill would let you get close to a win but somehow he would throw ringers laugh and sheepishly grin when he pulled out another win. Rest in peace Bill you will be missed by many. Our condolences to Marie, family and friends. He will definitely be missed, RIP my friend. Leo and Krista Bill and I didn't connect again until our senior years, at which time we went from knowing one another to being friends with very similar interests, Bill was the only person who knew who was aware of the Dumont wilderness area in Colorado. In November, he passed on to me his fishing lures and I proceeded to put one of them to use, took a picture of the catch and sent him an email that he didn't get. I'm attaching it here for his viewing pleasure and will be take him along with me wherever I might fish.

Mr D was a father figure to me. When I was a young boy and I had low self-esteem so I never really looked anybody in the eyes when I spoke, you taught me to look up man in the eyes when you speak help me while I couldn't help myself he was there more for me than my own dad. I love you Mr D

Saddened to hear of the passing of Billy whom I’ve known since we were in grammar school in Dumont, NJ. Many memories of our high school days and getting together at our class reunions. He was a fun person to be with, an attentive listener and always willing to be supportive of anyone who needed him. May he rest in the Peace of the Lord. Condolences to his loving family.
