Dick and my husband Ron(Soupy) were very good friends. Dick would go to Orange County Speedway to watch Ron race his modified car. He was a great friend to have, and will be dearly missed.

How Dick Holmberg became a Memmelaar
Around 1954, Brother Fred brought Dick Holmberg home from school one weekend. From that day forward, Dick has been part of the Memmelaar family. Dale, Dick and Fred played sports together all through HS. During the summer months, we all would put the bales of hay in the barn and when we finished doing that we would go to the neighbors and help him put his hay in. Brother Bern worked at Bucky’s gas station in Chester, where Dick and Fred would take their old cars to have Bern fix them on Sat and Sunday. They would always hang out down there, pumping gas while Bern was fixing their cars. Fred went on to play football at Wyoming with Dale, his older brother and Dick headed to into the Navy. After Dick discharged, Dick and Mart teamed up. You could always find them at the Middletown dirt track at the stock car races. Most weekends for years, you could find them up in the trees on the back side of the track watching the races. Dick and Bonnie spent many 4th of July’s at Jack’s or Mart’s home at family parties. Brothers Dale, Mart, Al, Sherm and Dick teamed up to form the Sharpshooter Rod and Gun Club and spent many hunting seasons up at their hunting camp watching “The Duke” movies and eating lots of good food, I don’t really know how much hunting actually got done. After brother Dale died, Dick became the sole owner of the “horse business” and loved his mini horses, Harley and Lego. No animals could have been treated better. Dick was a very important part of the Memmelaar family, joining in as the 10th brother. I do know that when Dick is laid to rest at the Veteran’s Cemetery with the rest of the Memmelaar gang, they will have a lot to talk about. I will miss you Brother Dick and all of our long talks.
Love Brother Herm from Caldwell Idaho, the last brother.

I didn’t know Richard at all but my Dad spoke of him often. My Dad graduated with him (Cy House) and had nothing but wonderful things to say about him. So sorry for your loss.
