Nellie May Gomes, 90, of Goshen, New York, passed away on June 6, 2024. Nellie Gomes was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Benjamin and Helen Cornell on September 1, 1933. She attended Prospect Heights High School in Brooklyn where she studied Art. She married Richard Gomes on February 5, 1955 and they raised five sons in Brooklyn. Nellie was an avid reader and lover of classical music and opera. She continued painting and drawing into her eighties. Nellie is survived by four of her sons and their spouses; Bruce and Marina of Monroe, N.Y, Rick and Lucy of Wyckoff, N.J., Lou and Donna of Washingtonville, N.Y., Gary and Cheryl of Goshen, N.Y., also daughter-in-law Cynthia Gomes nee Vanderveen as well as grandchildren Bruce, Brent, Bryant, Justin, Diana, Christopher, Mackenzie, Samantha, and Matthew, and great-grandchildren Saige, Nicholas, and August. She is pre-deceased by husband Richard and son Dennis. Visitation will be held at Donovan Funeral Home at 82 South Church Street in Goshen on Sunday, June 9 from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Donovan Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 12 at 9:00 AM with Pastor Michael Barry of Goshen United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Calverton National Cemetery in Long Island
