Obituary of Susannah B. Striphas

Susannah B. Striphas, 86, of Goshen died Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Valley View Center in Goshen, NY, after a struggle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Sue, or Susie, was born on December 30, 1938, in Middletown, NY. She is the daughter of John D. and Dorothy (Franke) Bright. She graduated from Middletown High School in 1956 and Russel Sage College in 1960, earning a bachelor's degree. A lifelong educator, Susie taught elementary school in Maybrook, NY and, later, became an elementary special education teacher with the Goshen Central School District. She retired in 1996. Susie was a passionate cook, hostess, and home decorator who loved sharing stories with family and friends. She also loved Goshen, where she resided for over 60 years. She'll be remembered for her Christmas parties, wicked sense of humor, and sprawling collection of faux fruit and flowers. She is survived by son Theodore (Ted) Striphas, daughter-in-law Phaedra C. Pezzullo, and grandson Niko P. Striphas, all of Boulder, CO; niece Alexandra Frangos of Boston, MA; nephew George Frangos of Bronxville, NY; nephew John Bright IV of Sparrowbush, NY; nephew James Bright of Bushnell, FL; niece Elizabeth Grant of New Kent, VA., VA; and sister-in-law Louise Carol Mezzetti of Warwick, NY. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Anne D. Striphas, and by her husband of 24 years, Peter G. Striphas. Visitation will be Saturday, April 26 from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Graveside Service and burial will be held 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Wallkill Cemetery, 160 Midway Road, Middletown, NY.
