Joseph V. Kearns, 85, of Goshen passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Nassau Baptist Hospital, Amelia Island, FL, where he frequently vacationed with his family.
Joseph was born October 20, 1926 in Goshen, the youngest child of Francis and Margaret (Roach) Kearns. He was the husband of Amelia Eisenbeck Kearns and a loyal employee of the Grand Union Co. for 42 years. Joseph was a lifelong resident of Goshen.
Joseph served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Wayne Wright from Oct. 21, 1943 to April 15, 1946. A proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Goshen, Joseph served as the Grand Marshall of the Goshen Memorial Day Parade on May 31, 2010.
After serving his country, Joseph married the love of his life on Sept. 18, 1949. They spent the next 61 years together in Goshen raising their family. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Goshen, NY.
He was preceded in death by his wife Amelia Kearns, son Joseph Kearns, brother Francis Kearns and sister Catherine Currao. He is survived by his two daughters, Elaine Reisner (Bob) of Braselton, GA and Jane Mangiamele (Paul) of New Windsor; his sister, Jane Hoerner; his grandchildren, Joshua Reisner (Elizabeth), Kristina McLaughlin (Dave), Megan Kingsley (Brian), Alvin Spargo (Allison), Amy Spargo (Nick), Emily Kearns, Ashley Morris (Chris), William MacGregor (Jennifer), Molly Dixon (Sam), and Scott MacGregor; and his nine great-grandchildren, Allyson, Dean, Andrew, Keira, Elle Marie, Grady, Amelia Jane, Alvin and Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness of his neighbors, Courtney and Mike, and Bernadette and all our friends who loved and cared for him.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 8, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc.,
Goshen, NY, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY.
The funeral will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 71 Murray Avenue, Goshen, NY 10924
Burial will follow at St John's Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
