Bernard "Bud" McCourtney passed away at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, New York after a brief illness.
He was born in Middletown, New York on June 25, 1924 to John and Mary Duffy McCourtney. He is survived by his wife Selene Brisky McCourtney at home, a daughter Elaine Clemente of Chelmsford, MA and a son Brendan McCourtney of Indianapolis, Ind. He was a loving grandfather to David Clemente of Portland, Oregon and Joel McCourtney of Maine. He is also survived by his sisters Maureen Glebocki, Patricia Stiller and his bother Joseph McCourtney all of Goshen, New York. Uncle Bud also leaves many cherished nieces and nephews and friends.
Family Statement: Bud grew up in Goshen, New York where he attended Garr Institute and OCCC in Middletown. He was a veteran of WWII, where he was wounded in Germany. He was honored with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his heroic participation in the Battle of the Bulge. In his younger years, he kept in touch with his army buddies from upstate New York.
Bud also loved sports, he was an avid football fan and played softball in his younger years on the Clemson softball team as short stop. He loved to ski and watch the ski jumpers fly high at Bear Mountain years ago.
Bud retired from Star Expansion in Mountainville, New York in 1992 where he worked as a mechanical draftsman. During his retirement, he loved working outside, keeping "the Classic" station wagon spotless and growing his famous tomatoes to supply his friends and family.
Our family offers our heartfelt thanks to our relatives, friends and neighbors who have been so supportive and caring during this difficult time. Your compassion and thoughtfulness will always be remembered. Special thanks to the nurses and aides on 5th floor East for their kindness, compassion and professionalism.
