ALVARO "AL" FERRANTE February 8, 1939 - September 4, 2015 Wurtsboro, NY Alvaro "Al" Ferrante, age 76 of Wurtsboro, NY died Friday, September 4, 2015 at Orange Regional Medical Center of Middletown, NY surrounded by his family. Al was born February 8, 1939 in Italy. He is the son of the late Angelo Ferrante and the late Maria (Conciatori) Ferrante. Al was the owner of Ferrante Homes in Goshen, NY; Al was a Co-founder and member of the Italian American Club, Goshen, NY. He married Eleanor Waller Ferrante. They have been married since 1967. They just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Al is survived by his wife, Eleanor Ferrante at home; three sons: Angelo Ferrante and his wife, Kathleen of Slate Hill, NY, Michael Ferrante and his wife, Barbara of Wurtsboro, NY, Peter Ferrante and his wife, Kimberly of Naples, FL; siblings: Linda and husband, Gino of Italy, Mario Ferrante and wife, Grace of Rye Brook, NY, Rose and her husband, Emilio of Queens, NY; three grandchildren: Adam Ferrante, Jason Ferrante and Peter Ferrante Jr.; also many nieces and nephews. Most people knew of Alvaro as "Al", but so many people knew him as "Big Al". Al was such a special person, who liked nothing more than being around family and friends. He cherished his entire family. He has so many friends he had made from Wolf Lake to Florida. He would do anything to help people but never ask for anything in return; a rare breed he was. His smile was infectious. He had a big and tough exterior but had heart of gold. Al was so proud of his heritage. He loved his time he spend with all his brothers at the Italian American Club that he helped co-found. Another passion of Al's were his soccer games. He had cable and satellite so he would never miss a game. His favorite team was Lazio. Later on in life Al took up golf. You couldn't have a conversation with Al with out talking about his last round of golf. He will missed by so many. Visitation hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8th at Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. Mass of Christian Burial be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9th at St. John The Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave., Goshen, NY. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Central Orange County Italian American Club (COCCIA). An annual scholarship has been set in honor of Alvaro Ferrante. This annual scholarship will be given to deserving student of Italian American heritage.
