Sunrise April 28, 1937 Sunset September 14, 2017 Nannie Bertha Garrett-Canada the daughter of the late Milton P.Garrett and Phoebe Smith. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called Nannie home on Thursday September 14, 2017, while she rested at the Sapphire Nursing Home in Goshen, New York. Nannie grew up in Halifax County, Virginia in the Crossroads area. She grew up in a very large and loving family with both of her parents and fifteen (15) brothers and sisters. Nannie's parents and eleven of her siblings preceded her in death. At a very young age Nannie dedicated her life to Christ, becoming a member of Mount Pleasent Baptist Church in Nathalie, Virginia. Before leaving Virginia, Nannie met and married Major Canada(deceased), three of her children, a daughter that died shortly after birth, James(deceased 1994) and Milton bear his last name. After relocating to the Bronx, New York, Nannie met Ernie Ford Sr. and bore two more children, Ernie and Ella (deceased 2015). Nannie also opened her heart and raised Timothy Ford as her own. Nannie with her eyes always on the Lord joined Goodwill Baptist Church in the Bronx. Nannie was a homebody, who focused on her family, doing her best to always stay in touch and available to talk, preach, teach, console, and just listen. Nannie will be greatly missed by her two sons, Milton and Ernie (Jacquelyn) and daughter-in-law, Cordelia. Nannie leaves her three sisters, Annie Eliza Ragland, Connie May Carrington and Phoebe Garrett-Jennings, her brother, Saint Clair Garrett, his wife Robin all of Virginia. Sisters-in-law, Junie Garrett (Bronx, NY); Lois Garrett (Halifax, VA) and Linda Garrett (Maryland). Eleven grandchildren, Lashana, Vivian, Shakira, Milton, Charles, Angelina, Matthew, Christine, Nyrobia, Cyrus, Selathia, Nelson (deceased 2012);eleven great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many friends and associates. Visitation will be Friday, September 22 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY; with the funeral service at 7:30 pm.
