Sylvia Ellefsen, 82, of Chester, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at Valley View Center for Nursing Care & Rehabilitation, Goshen, NY. Sylvia was born March 19, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Reidar and Thora (Jacobsen) Karlsen. She was the widow of Howard T. Ellefsen who predeceased her on April 15, 2014. Sylvia retired from by the Town of Chester Police Dept. as Secretary. She was a member of the Sons of Norway. She loved skiing, camping and fishing, she had a thing for auctions and flea markets. She is survived by her daughter, Karen DelPrete of Harrison, NY; 4 sons, Kurt Ellefsen and wife Maryanne of Greentown, PA, Kenneth Ellefsen and wife Ellen of Goshen, Karl Ellefsen of Milford, PA and Kyle Ellefsen and wife Nancy of Goshen; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 21 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. The funeral will be held 1:30 pm on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church of Goshen, Park Place, Goshen, NY with the Reverend David Kingsley officiating. Burial will follow in Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sylvia's name to a charity of ones choice.
