Obituary of Martin J. Bast

Martin J. Bast, Sr., 83, of Goshen, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. Martin was born July 13, 1931 in Tuxedo, NY, the son of the late Martin J. and Trina (Haakmeester) Bast. He served in the in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Akins Drug Store in Warwick, NY as a Clerk, was an active member of the Goshen Christian Reformed Church, and a former Elder and former member of the Choir for many years; member of the Goshen Youth League for many years. An avid sports fan of the University of Michigan and any sports team affiliated with the state of Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice Bast at home; sons, Martin J. Bast IV and wife Tina of Goshen, Robert H. Bast and wife Dawn of Greenville Township; daughter, Jo Ann Marie Bast of Goshen; brother, Henry J. Bast and wife Katherine of Sussex, NJ; 3 grandchildren, Martin J. Bast, V and wife Jamie of Middletown, Rebekah Davis and husband Joseph of Oneida, and Lauren Smith and husband Jordan of Stamford, CT; 3 step grandchildren Nevin, Arron and Lauren all of Greenville, NY; great grandson, Keegan J. Davis; step great granddaughter, Taegan and many nieces and nephews. Visitaion will be Friday, June 26 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Goshen Christian Reformed Church, Rt. 17A, Goshen, NY with Pastor Sam officiating. Burial will follow in Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, NY. Donations may be made in Martin's name to the Goshen Christian Reformed Church, Route 17A, Goshen, NY 10924.
