Spiro Angelo Tsaganeas, 67, son of the late Xanthoula Manzares and departed Angelo Tsaganeas, passed into God's hands on August 2, 2016 after lengthy and severe health complications while in hospice care at the home of Ms. Lorraine Butler in Salisbury Mills, New York. Born in Manhattan on March 2, 1949, he was retired in disability from his last occupation in the building industry, and had been married early in life to the late Christina Hallgren of New Jersey for 8 years from which there were no issue.
As a young man, Spiro attended the Alexander Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, was a world class athlete in karate, received trophies for football, and was an exhibition diver. He fulfilled his passion for animals of all sizes working for 2 decades at Elli's Pet Store on 72nd Street between Broadway and Columbus in Manhattan serving the immediate community including many celebrities. Later in life, he volunteered for the charitable organization Rolling Thunder that focuses on the needs of US veterans. For the past 26 years, he has resided in upstate New York in Orange County.
Spiro is survived by his daughter Tracy Rocco and grandson Angelo; his brother George, wife Adrianne, nephews Christopher and Angelo; his father’s second spouse, Alice, sister Frances and husband Petros Xourafas, and the following cousins—from the paternal side Gigi Negroponte, brother of the late Aleko Negroponte and Doru Tsaganea; from the maternal side Mary Jane and husband Bruce Colglazier Pappas, niece Zoe and husband Jason, niece Rhea; Tino and Denise Pappas, niece Jennifer, husband Jesse and grandnephew Lincoln, niece Megan and husband Brandon; Ourania Miles and husband Thanos, niece Mary; Sotirios and Angel Voultepsis, nephews Steve, Nicholas and niece Arianna Katherina.
I would like to thank Lorraine Butler, children Eric and Brianna; Harry and Patricia Poulos, children Christopher, wife Jackie and Jeffrey; Sophie Pappas, children Demitri, wife Cain and Selene for their continuous presence and ongoing love and support as members of our family. We would not be a family without you.
To Maurice Roe, and Spiro’s stalwart friends left unnamed here, we thank you for your unfailing love.
