Jean M Murphy, of Goshen, NY passed away on April 24, 2017 surrounded by her family at home.
Jean was born in Chester, NY on February 9, 1921 to Harry L Murray Sr. and Lillian (Diffily) Murray. She grew up in Chester, graduating from Chester High School and New Paltz Teachers College. She married Gabbett A. Murphy on May 8, 1948. He predeceased her on March 14, 2014. They were married 66 years. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law Jerry Steimers , and her siblings Elizabeth "Betty" Carey, Harry L. Murray Jr. , Robert Murray Sr., James Murray and John Murray.
Jean was a second-grade teacher at Scotchtown Ave. School in Goshen. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at St John's the Evangelist RC Church, a member of the Goshen Seniors and volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the March of Dimes, the Red Door Thrift Store and Hill Hold Museum.
Jean enjoyed spending time with her many friends; whether it was playing bridge, going out to lunch or sharing a cup of coffee. Her family meant the world to her. She loved holiday gatherings, family celebrations, vacations in Cape Cod and simply enjoying life. She was always ready for her family and friends with a smile on her on face, a twinkle in her eye, and a love that abounds.
She is survived by her five children, Jerry Murphy of Levittown, PA, Mary Beth Steimers of Goshen, NY, Eileen Wrabel and husband Matt of Southbury, CT, Tom Murphy of Lexington, KY and Richard Murphy of Charlotte, NC; her brother, William Murray of Chester, NY; two sisters, Mary Kay Campbell and husband Roger of Sun City, Arizona and Barbara Karl of Monroe, NY; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 27 from 4 to 7 PM at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 am on Friday, April 28, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY.
Burial will follow in St Columba Cemetery, Chester NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Jean's name to St John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Avenue, Goshen, NY or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stonybrook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
