Obituary of Christine Thomas

CHRISTINE THOMAS April 19, 1969 - May 2, 2017 Middletown, NY Christine Thomas, of Middletown, NY, entered into eternal rest on May 2nd, 2017 at the age of 48. 'Chris', as she was lovingly known by many, was born April 19th, 1969 in Nyack, NY to Beth and Peter Verheyleweghen. Upon graduation from the University of Albany, Christine went to work as a social worker for Child Protective Services. Upon completion of her Master's degree from Long Island University, she spent 19 years as a school counselor for both the Minisink Valley and Port Jervis school districts. Chris was a tireless advocate for those in need; evident by the countless students who maintained contact long after they parted ways professionally. As a volunteer, Christine contributed her time to Minisink Cares, Rachel's Challenge, and spent time as both the Junior & Senior class advisor; you could often find her making cocoa at football games on Fall Fridays, or selling tickets at basketball games throughout the Winter. In her free time she was an avid gardener, a dog lover, and an active member of West Hills Country Club Christine is survived by her loving husband, Brent Thomas, with whom she shared 16 years of loving marriage. She will be greatly missed by her parents, Beth and Peter Verheyleweghn; her mother-in-law, Mary Thomas; sisters, Kathleen Jensen (Terry) and Kim Bushane (Albert); brother-in-law, Scott Jensen, as well as her nieces and nephews; Drew and Taylor Jensen and Albert and Isabella Bushane, in addition to her extended family, with whom she shared an incredible bond. Christine was an integral, proud member of the Thomas family as well, who filled her life with love from the moment they welcomed her with open arms. She is preceded in death by her beloved father-in-law, Robert Thomas and her dearest pet, Zoey who filled her heart with love. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 6th at Donovan Funeral Home in Goshen, NY, with a Funeral Mass taking place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 7th at the Goodwill Church in Montgomery, NY, with a 1 hour visitation taking place prior to the service. A private entombment will take place on Monday, May 8th.
