Barney DiStanislao Goshen, New York Barney DiStanislao, retired operations manager at Wakefern Food Corporation's Northern Distribution Center in Middletown, NY, entered into rest on Monday, June 29, 2009 at home. He was born in the Bronx, NY on May 28, 1934, the son of the late Mr & Mrs Michael DiStanislao who were born in Abruzzi, Italy. He was a U.S. Navy combat Veteran and served on the destroyer, U.S.S. Rooks, DD804 during the Korean War. He was awarded six decorations with two combat stars. A strong supporter of the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley for two decades. He served as an advisory board member and on the fund raising committee. He loved to travel and visited more than 35 countries around the world to study and understand different cultures. Survivors are his devoted wife, Suzanne Metke DiStanislao of Goshen; his beloved son and daughter-in-law William and Ericka DiStanislao of Wall, NJ; his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Steve Brescia of Montgomery; beloved grandson, Vincent Michael Brescia; sister, Julia Colombini of Elmwood Park, NJ; brother, Joseph DiStanislao of Elmwood Park, NJ; sister, Sophie Oglesby of St. Petersburg, FL; mother-in-law Doris Metke of Stroudsburgh, PA., Sister-In Law and Brother-In-Law - Carol & Michael Penn of The Villages, Florida, Many Nieces & Nephews.; He will be missed by his three loving companion pups who wait for him to come home. Predeceased by brother, Frank, killed in action during the second World War, sister, Malitda Faro and Gloria Aiello. Barney was thankful and happy for all the love, prayers and support he received during his illness from his family and friends and all the great care he received from his doctors, health care professionals and the staff at ORMC-Horton and Arden Hill. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc. 82 South Church Street, Goshen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 2, at 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave., Goshen Burial will follow in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY. Contributions may be made to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, 194 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Arrangements under the care of the Donovan Funeral Home Inc., Goshen, NY.
