Seeing Chuck and Dash at the Empire State Building added something special to our day. We knew they were both on duty to keep us safe, but seeing the bond between them was heartwarming in an especially busy place.
Many of us would detour to the 33rd Street entrance to see them on duty. Chuck was a serious guy, but always had a few moments to let us pet Dash and say hello.
I cannot imagine your grief, but please accept my condolences. It was an honor having known him and his beautiful Dash.

Dear Lappe Family,
Chuck and Dash were beloved acquaintances on my walk to work each day at the Empire State Building. It was always reassuring knowing they were there to help keep us safe. Watching the two together often brought smiles -- Dash was so totally
devoted, his focus was always making Chuck happy. The love they had for each other was truly amazing. I can only imagine the love Chuck had for each of you, and I can't imagine your pain. Know there are many prayers and thoughts for you and for Chuck. Wishing you peace.

I loved working with Chuck he always made me laugh. Him and dash always made my Wednesday Fridays and sundays so much fun. Sundays was best day for us. all we did was relax and enjoy the silence in the loading dock and we talked about many fun things. I will miss chuck so much thank u for the laughs thank u for the memory's and thank u for making the days we had so much fun

I am so very sorry for your loss. Though you and I would share a wave as you drove by, I would occasionally see Charles walking the dog on our road as I was walking mine. Our "pooches" gazed at each other from afar as they walked. It seems as if only just saw Charles out last week. My prayers for Chuck's family I would include Chuck but I don't think he'll need any help getting past the gates of heaven to join the lords guardian angels. I had the honor, pleasure and blessings to work with him on the NYPD . We were partners in the 47 pct and were even worked together afterwards in the "real" world after retiring. A finer "cop", father,family man and friend is probably impossible to find. His hero spirit will be with us all- always. I would hope he rests in peace but I have a feeling God has lots of work for his spirit to carry on with May the force be with you.

As a former Lieutenant n the 47 Pct, I had the pleasure of supervising Chuck in the anti-crime unit in the precinct and I can assure you he needed very little supervision as did his partner. They were industrious, conscientious and dedicated officers of the highest caliber. It makes me sad to say a final goodbye to Chuckie and send my sympathy prayers and condolences to the Lappe family. I was fortunate enough to know Chuck for years, as we worked together in the Empire State Building. Him and Dash were the best parts of many mornings.
