Obituary of Phyla Wright
Phyla Weyant Wright, 89, of Goshen, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY.
Phyla was born September 17, 1929 in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of Walter Bennett Weyant and Georgia (Mason) Weyant. She was raised in Solvay, NY where she graduated high school, enjoying summers on Tully Lake. She went on to attend Muskingum College in Ohio before marrying Paul Wright of Preble, NY August 4, 1950. They moved to Goshen in 1959. Phyla became a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as both a Deacon and an Elder. She was also active in Christian Education and the Women's Association. While raising 5 children, she was the right hand to her husband as he directed GHS musicals and many other community musical productions. Summers were again enjoyed, this time while working at a resort on Fourth Lake in the Adirondacks for 25 years as the social director. Phyla always had an interest in physical therapy and as a grandmother she graduated from O.C.C.C with a degree in PTA. By this time she was enthralled with travelling the world. She organized many trips through the American Institute for Foreign Study and was cited by them for furthering international understanding. She then opened her own travel agency known as Wright Way Tours & Cruises. Along with her husband they saw many beautiful and interesting places while learning about the customs and cultures of different people. She enjoyed sharing what she experienced and learned with her family. Her passion for world peace continued with her for the rest of her life. Phyla always lived with grace and will be remembered for both her soft spoken demeanor and her strong willed determination.
