GOSHEN, NEW YORK
Bernard F. "Bernie" Doody, age 71, of Goshen, NY entered into rest Sunday, October 4, 2009 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Warwick with his family by his side.
Bernard was born July 4, 1938 in the Bronx, the son of the late Cornelius and Dorothy (McCraney) Doody. He was one of 13 children and married his love Ethel M. Ackerson on December 28, 1968.
Bernie was a retired employee of Avon Products were he worked for 32 years. He served in the Army in the 1960's and was a member of St. John's Church of Goshen.
His family was the most important thing to him. He loved every minute he was able to be with his grandchildren, they were his world. The entire family will miss him dearly. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and Pop-pop
Survivors include the love of his life his loving wife of almost 41 years, Essie (Ackerson) Doody at home; his three children, daughter, Denise Cross and husband Jason of the town of Greenville, son, Scott Doody and wife Michelle of Goshen, daughter, Heather Morse and husband Karel of Goshen; 6 grandchildren, Brian and Brianna Morse, Andrew Cross, Sean, Meghan and Kieran Doody; his sisters, Julia Parson of Goshen, Patricia McLaughlin and husband George of Goshen, Theresa Engasser and husband Ron of Tennessee, Maryann Vanacore and husband Mike of Goshen, Dorothy Burns and husband Donald of Harriman; 2 brothers, Daniel Doody and Cornelius Doody of New Jersey and many nieces and newphews and sister's-in-law and brother's-in-law.
He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy McCraney and Father Cornelius Doody, his sisters Katherine and husband Harry Ouzoonian and Leanore Scarola; brothers, William, Dennis and Michael Doody; grandson Sean Patrick Doody; mother and father-in-law Charles and Gladys Ackerson.
The family would like to thank the Doctor's at Goshen Medical Association and all of the nurses at St. Anthony's Hospital for taking such good care of him.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen.
The Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Avenue, Goshen, NY
Internment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in honor of his grandson.
