Dear Megan-Moira-Patrick & Edmund: Many tears were shed in Hampshire & Mineral counties in WVa when the new of Joan's death was published. I was at the Hampshire Center in Romney when I received a call from Heartland in Keyser to report the news. Then your Mom would have been proud - in those facilities an Irish wake of sorts occured with many memories shared - we all were impacted by her high standards of nuring - her caring and achieving those standards by working along side the aides or nurses. She was my mentor as a new 40 yr old nurse and we remained friends and we thought we shared some common blood with Bracken being the name of our grandparents. I'm the one that received the photo of Bracken's pub in Ireland, a thoughtful gesture -and thanks to the daughter who took her time to take it. My professional life was changed by Joan - as were countless others and I was richly blessed to have had her in my life as a friend and teacher. I am so sorry for your loss. Pam

Joan was the best friend to my sister, Sheila Clyne. both graduated from St. Vincent's and were life long friends. Through this relationship I and my wife, Linda, got to know Joan and her family. I was introduced to Joan and Ed when I was 14 when visiting my sister Sheila in Washington, D.C. Linda and I visited with Joan and Paul when they lived in the "round" house in West Virginia. We also met on and off at wakes and funerals over the years and renewed old friendships. Linda and I were visiting with Linda Hofmann in Reston, Virginia last week and on the day that we left Linda Hofmann's she called us and notified us of Joan's passing. Joan was a person who always laughed and always made you laugh. She was a wonderful person and I am proud to have known her. Linda and I offer our condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear of Joan's passing. I worked with her at Heartland in Keyser, Wv. She was the epitomy of what a nurse should be. She demanded respect but gave it in return. The world will be a little less without her in it. I have many wonderful and fond memories of her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Have solace in the fact that we all will meet her again.
