Obituary of Gregory John Syrianos

Gregory John Syrianos was born on May 5, 1940, in New York City to the late John and Sophie Syrianos. He attended Aviation High School and served two years in the US Army. In 1966 he married the love of his life, Paulette. Together they built a life they loved; spending time with family, traveling, going to the theater, hosting dinner parties and holidays. They resided in Monroe, NY for over fifty years where they raised their three children. His two grandchildren were his pride and joy. He had a successful career of over 35 years at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. While employed he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Long Island University with a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from Adelphi University. He ended his career at the Marlboro library where he was recognized for his dedication and service. He was a faithful member of St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh, NY where he served as a member of Ahepa. His passion for aviation and public service led him to volunteer for the Civil Air Patrol. In his retirement he pursued his single engine pilot license until his diagnosis with Alzheimer's which prevented him from completing his solo flight time. On Friday September 8, 2023, he lost his battle with Alzheimer's. Gregory was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife Paulette Syrianos, his children Cynthia Schuck and her husband Christopher Schuck, Lisa Papantoniou and her husband Sam Papantoniou, and John Gregory Syrianos. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Arianna Schuck and Nicholas Schuck. Gregory is also survived by his sister Evangeline Spiliotis and her husband Nicholas Spiliotis and many nieces and nephews. He has flown into the sunset and will forever be missed and loved. Visitation will be Monday, September 11, 2023, from 4-7 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 2250 Goshen Tpke, Middletown, NY. Interment will follow at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to the Alzheimer's Association.
