Anne Miriam Mollo
Anne Miriam Mollo was born October 9, 1925 in New York City to Anne (Dooley) Gasser and Carl Peter Gasser, one of three children. Her brothers are Robert Gasser and the late Charles Gasser.
Since her mother's name was also Anne, everyone called her by her middle name, Miriam. In her 84 years she lived a full life. At the age of 7 she was very ill and within hours of death from an infected mastoid (bone behind the ear). However her mother was very religious and prayed to Our Lady of Perpetual Help for intervention. Within 24 hours she was completely healed and her case made the miracle books at Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Growing up in St. Albans, Queens, Miriam was very gifted in the arts and became an accomplished pianist as a young lady. She was also an excellent writer and penned an essay "Valiant Women" which was featured in her high school yearbook.
She had a wonderful career in New York City, and witnessed firsthand the early days of television, working for CBS for seven years. After beginning as a secretary, Miriam was promoted seven grades to production assistant for Margaret Arlen, who hosted one of the first TV talk shows, The Margaret Arlen Show. She enjoyed meeting a few famous people along the way such as Charlton Heston.
Miriam was ahead of her time in that she enjoyed a nice career before settling down to get married and have children. She and her husband Carl married in 1952 and moved to Valley Stream, Long Island in 1957, where they raised four children, Mark, Patty, Diane (now Irlianna) and Laura.
She had classic good looks and many said she looked like Dina Merrill and Lee Remick. Miriam was legendary for her wonderful spirit, always positive, warm, friendly and gracious to all she met. She always sought out the goodness in each person, forgiving them for their faults and always emphasizing the positive, and encouraging her children and others to do the same. The kids in her neighborhood used to call her Mrs. C, after Mrs. Cunningham, the gracious mother in "Happy Days."
Always loving arts and refinement, Miriam enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, embroidery and crafts, which she taught to her 3 daughters.
She later returned to the business world working for New York Life before retiring in 1992. She and Carl traveled to Ireland, Italy and Greece in their retirement years, before moving from Valley Stream to Highland Mills in 2000. When Carl was moved to a nursing home for Alzheimers, Miriam spent her final years at Glen Arden in Goshen, where she amassed yet another circle of dear friends.
She always made friends everywhere she went and treated everyone with the same delight, respect and kindness. Whether you were a grocery clerk or a CEO, Miriam always gave you what she called "the royal treatment." In turn, she was so loved and cherished. She was a complete, exquisite expression of motherly love, compassion, humility, grace, dignity, inspiration and kindness. We will always keep her in our hearts.
