Obituary of Edward F. Meany

Edward F. Meany Goshen, New York Edward F. Meany, 92, of Goshen died Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Orange Regional Medical Center-Arden Hill Campus, Goshen, NY. Ed was born August 21, 1918 in Florida, NY, the son of John J. and Eileen T. (Tully) Meany. He was the husband of Claire Carolyn Forbes Meany. A 1936 Graduate of SS Seward Institute, Florida, NY and later of Rider College, Trenton, NJ. After graduating he received an appointment to US Merchant Marines Academy, Kings Point, NY and graduated in 1944; was a lieutenant jg in the Naval Reserves during World War II. He was President and founder of Dickerson & Meany Insurance Co. in Goshen. He was past Grand Knight of Goshen Knights of Columbus, 70 year member of McQuoid Hook and Ladder, American Legion-Goshen Post 377, 7 year member of the original Planning Board (Village of Goshen), past Exalted Ruler of the Middletown Elks Lodge 1097, and Past member of the Goshen Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Meany, as she was known to family and friends, at home; son, Edward Brian Meany and wife Mary Beth of Goshen; daughter, Dr. Judith Ann Meany and husband John Protopappas of Waterford, VA; 7 grandchildren, Christina DeLeon Protopappas and fianc, Robert James Alexander, Peter Fraser Protopappas, Stephanie Lozier Protopappas, Alison Louise Meany, Lauren Elizabeth Meany, Mary Rose Claire Meany and Edward Charles Meany. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 3, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, August 4, at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen,, NY. Burial will follow in Slate Hill Cemetery, Goshen.
