Valerina Connor Goshen, New York
Valerina Connor of Goshen, New York passed away peacefully May 21, 2012 with her family by her side. Valerina was born in Manhattan on June 14, 1925 the daughter of Nora and Peter Zabachta. She was married to John E. Connor who died in 1986.
She moved to Goshen in 1930. Valerina retired from Goshen Central School where she was secretary at Scotchtown Avenue School for 28 years. She was active in St. James's Episcopal Church serving on the vestry, alter guild and as "choir mother." She was also active in the Women of St. James and the Sarah Wells Girl Scout Council. Val was an original member of the Goshen Card Club, a group of women that met regularly since the 1940s. She was an avid sewer, knitter, baker, and loved to play the organ.
Val was dedicated to her family, her many life long friends and to her community of Goshen; which she loved. She is survived by her son Edward of Goshen and her daughter Margaret Gugliotta and her husband Joseph of New Hampton, New York. Her brother Lawrence P. Zabachta died in 2010. Val is also survived by her sister-in-law Elizabeth and her niece Lynn Zabachta and her husband Wayne Cummins of Goshen.
The family wishes to thank everyone at St. Teresa's Nursing Home on Highland Avenue in Middletown, New York, especially the nurses and care givers, for the care and attention given to Val.
Visitation will be held at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, New York on Thursday, May 24 from 2 PM to 4 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held at Saint James's Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl Lunden, 1 St. James Place, Goshen, New York on Friday, May 25 at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. James's Episcopal Church. Interment will be in the columbarium of St. James's Church at the convenience of the family.
