Obituary of Fred Van Der Heide

Fred Van Der Heide, 86, of Goshen, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. Fred was born March 22, 1927 inWycoff,NJ, the son of Martin and Anna (Van De Weert) Van Der Heide. He was the widower of Caroline Mathay Van Der Heide. Fred served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Mason by trade. He also worked as Superintendent Goshen Highway Department and for Alders Florist. He was a member of the Goshen Christian Reformed Church and served as an Elder. Fred had a great sense of humor. He was a wonderful, loving father and grandfather, with a want to share Gods grace and salvation, especially with his family. He is survived by his children, Gertrude Parks and companion, Stewart DeGroat, Jr., Anna Brown, and Martin Fred Van Der Heide and wife Virginia; 7 grandchildren, Norman and Heather Parks, Keith, Brian, and Michelle Brown, Jessica Barry and husband Dan and Jonathan Van Der Heide; very close friend, Betsy Yntema; brother-in-law, Henry Vriesema; sister-in-law, Evelyn Moore; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Caroline; brothers, Bernard, Gary, Martin and Neil Van Der Heide; sisters, Minnie and Christine Roorda and Ann Vriesema. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 11 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Goshen Christian Reformed Church, 2440 State Rt. 17A,Goshen,NY. The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 12 at Goshen Christian Reformed Church, Rt. 17A,Goshen,NYwith Pastor Sam Sutter officiating. Burial will follow in Orange County Veteran'sMemorialCemetery,Goshen,NY.
