Elizabeth "Betty" (Gentile) Corda born February 7, 1918 passed away following a fall at home and a brief illness surrounded by her family on March 13, 2014. She was born in Brooklyn, New York to Italian immigrants the late Giuseppe and Angelina Gentile. Betty is predeceased by siblings, Linda Cerullo, Concetta DeVito, Josephine Cappiello, Vincent Gentile, Bernard Gentile Sr. and Angie Gentile and a great grandchild Lucy Coleman Whitmore.
Betty moved to Goshen, NY in 1949 with her late husband Louis Corda Sr. where they raised their two children Louis and Maureen, and opened their home to many foster children. She proudly worked many jobs including dietary at Goshen Central School District and Arden Hill Hospital. She lived in the village of Goshen for sixty-five years. She was a member of the Goshen Seniors, Goshen, NY.
While her immediate family was small, Betty's home like her heart was always warm and full. Her life was rich with people. She had the ability to cross generation lines, always with friends of all ages, experiences and backgrounds. She wove her generous spirit and forgiving propensity throughout the daily lives of a large social network of which she was the common golden thread. Betty was always willing to lend an ear, offer a cup of coffee and homemade Italian cookies. She drew vigor and love through serving other people. All that had the honor of sitting at her table learned the unique bonds created from lingering gatherings over good food. She will be sorely missed.
Betty is survived by her son Louis Corda and wife Jacqueline of Englewood, FL daughter Maureen Hudson and husband Jay of Campbell Hall, NY, grandchildren Caroline Corda-Razat and husband Thierry of Paris, France, Claudine Corda-Royden and husband Shawn of Hyde Park, NY, Jason Whitmore and wife Lori of Florida, NY, Lisa Whitmore and partner Dr. Ryan Anderson of Portland, Oregon. Betty is also survived by great-grand children Matthew Razat, Anne-Laure Razat, Grey Whitmore, Lincoln Whitmore and newest addition, Atticus Whitmore. Aunt Betty is also survived by two generations of nieces and nephews.
Betty had a special place in her heart for her niece LouAnn Rysinger. Also nephew Kenny Rysinger who took exceptional care to see Betty every day, and above all was her cherished friend.
Betty's family would also like to offer our appreciation and thanks to her long time family physician Dr. Augusto Rosas for his unwavering, careful and compassionate care.
