Gabbett A. Murphy, 94, of Goshen, NY and New York City passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, Newburgh, NY.
Gab was born December 30, 1919 in New York, NY, the son of Charles and Anna (Wilson) Murphy.
Gab served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in Hawaii and Japan. He retired from the FBI after 38 years of service in New York as a Special Agent. Gab was also an avid NY Yankee and Notre Dame fan. He attended opening day at the old Yankee stadium in 1923. He was a devoted Catholic and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Gab is survived by his wife, Jean Murphy at home; five children: Gerard Murphy of Levittown, PA, Mary Beth Steimers of Goshen, NY, Eileen Wrabel and husband, Matt of Southbury, CT, Tom Murphy and wife, Brenda of Lexington, KY and Richard Murphy of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He was predeceased by his twin sister, Evelyn Murphy; brother, John Murphy and son-in-law, Jerry Steimers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18th at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82, South Church St., Goshen, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19th at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave., Goshen, NY. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Chester, NY.
