Obituary of Arthur A. Borin
Please share a memory of Arthur to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Arthur A. Borin, Jr. of Goshen, New York, and Heart Lake, Pennsylvania, devoted
husband and father, passed away suddenly and inexplicably on December 15, 2014. He
was 51. He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Karen, his son Timothy, and his
daughter Kay, each of whom he adored more than life itself.
Art is also survived by his mother Carol of Huletts Landing, New York, brother
Christopher, his wife Victoria and their children Christopher, Matthew and William of
Charlotte, North Carolina, brother Eric, his wife Lea and their children Abigail, Elizabeth
and Anne of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, brother Frank, his wife Morgan and their
children Simone, Joseph and John of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, sister Suzanne Alfano, her husband Michael and their children Michael, Christopher and Thomas of Dorset,
Vermont, sister Mary Silver and her children James and John of Goshen, New York, mother-in-law Carol Davis of Hyde Park, New York, sister-in-law Diane Davis and her son
Joseph of New Milford, Connecticut, sister-in-law Jennifer Brennan, her husband
Michael and their children Elise and Maya Brennan of Valatie, New York, brother-in-law
Paul Davis, his wife Mary Elizabeth and their daughter Attlie of Atlanta, Georgia.
Art was the oldest of six children. He was an inspiration and a true role model to his
siblings, his extended family, and to everyone who knew him.
He was born in Suffern, New York, and was raised in Ramsey, New Jersey. He
attended St. Paul's Roman Catholic School and Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey and was a
graduate of Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a child, he and his family
spent summers in Hague, New York, on Lake George.
Art enjoyed all things mechanical and loved working on cars, boats and motorcycles in
his spare time. When he was 16 years old, he took a full-time summer job working on
marine engines in Silver Bay, New York, near his family's vacation home. Even as his
family traveled back and forth between New Jersey and Lake George, Art remained
there and worked. A true testament to his work ethic and his maturity at such a young
age.
Second in life to his role as a devoted husband and loving father, Art was a highly
successful businessman and entrepreneur. After working for Tait, Weller & Baker as
accountant, he went to work for his father who was the President & CEO of ABEX
Corporation and AMSCO Wear Products, Inc. in Mahwah, NJ. and Goshen, NY. After
his father's retirement, Art served as President & CEO of AMSCO Wear Products, Inc.
of Goshen, New York, for 23 years.
Throughout his fulfilling life, Art always worked to live. He was an avid outdoorsman
who enjoyed motorcycling, skiing, water skiing, hunting, and mountain biking. His idea
of the perfect day was doing any of these activities with his beloved wife and his two
children.
Art also enjoyed many fantastic trips during his lifetime. The only state he was missing
in his travel repertoire was Alaska. His other travel included ski trips to many US states
and France as well as motorcycle trips to Colorado, West Virginia, Virginia, North
Carolina, Vermont, Maine and Nova Scotia; and a mountain biking trip to Utah.
First and foremost, Art was a dedicated family man who devoted countless hours to his
children and the Goshen community through his volunteer coaching. Art coached his
son Tim's little league team in a shared love of the game that came to mean so much
more than hot Saturday's in Craigville Park. He was tremendously proud of his son's
success in the game. He loved sharing the laughs when the kids were smaller and
enjoyed all the silliness of trying to teach small children an intricate game. He
encouraged and supported every child in a way that made them feel special and
important. He reveled in getting to know so many children that are now young adults.
He wanted each of them to succeed no matter what they were doing. Art also cherished
the bonds he made with the other coaches. He respected and admired his daughter
Kay's masterful artwork and could not understand how she came from two parents who
couldn't draw a stick figure. He was so very proud of all of her accomplishments and
was awestruck by her talent.
In life, Art was a man who always sought to do the right thing, not necessarily the easy
thing. He was not concerned about what other people thought. He was, without a
doubt, full of life and eager to live.
He will be sorely missed by all.
