Obituary of Robert Joseph Maloney

Robert Joseph Maloney, 84, "Sweet Olde Bob", of Morehead City, NC, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Crystal Coast Hospice House, Newport, NC. Bob, as he was affectionately known, was born July 27, 1930 in Richmond, VA, the son of Joseph Edward Maloney. He valiantly served in Naval Aviation as an Electronics Technician during the Korean War. After serving his country in the US Navy, he attended Auburn University, College of Engineering, and graduated in 1956. He then began employment with Westinghouse Electric Corp., Elevator Division, as an engineer, retiring in 1989. He leaves many friends in this industry. Bob will be remembered as a brave, kind, generous, compassionate man. He lived in dignity and was known as an honest, straightforward and clear thinking man. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Ruth Mae (Bottenfield) Maloney; 3 daughters, Sharon Maloney of Chesterfield, VA, Aileen M. Soerbo of Morristown, NJ, Janet Drake and her husband, Russ of Morehead City; 2 sons, Daniel Maloney and his wife Debra of Palm Beach, FL and Kenneth Maloney of Morehead City; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Joseph. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Goshen, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to the Crystal Coast Hospice House, 100 Big Rock Weigh, Newport, NC 28570.
