I really loved Laura. She came quite often in the summer to Québec City where I live, and we shared many happy occasions at the restaurant Aux Anciens Canadiens. I have known her for the past 15 years. During the winter we would write letters to each other and talk on the phone. She was a wonderful person, and I am grateful to have known her. She encouraged me in my study of the piano, and listened patiently while I told her how hard it was to find the time to practice, how demanding my professor was, etc. She had a most beautiful voice and diction. There was so much rhythm in it that it is not surprising she wrote poetry. I was always happy to read her latest poems, and she dedicated one to me. I was with her when she heard the news of 9/11, and I stayed with her until she received news that her family back in New York were okay. It was always a struggle to find time to visit her during the summers; but I tried to see her 2 or 3 times, besides our annual outing to the beloved restaurant in Old Québec. Her passing is a very great loss to me. If I manage to find a photo of her on the web, I will frame it and put it on my piano to inspire me.
Hello to Fred and Brad and Consuelo, and my deepest sympathies.
