William J. Russell Jr.- born Dobbs Ferry, NY on May 9, 1942 to Dorothy L. and William J. Russell Sr. of Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. where he grew up. He was pre-deceased by his parents, and his grandson Russell Uhler.
Bill is survived by his brother Bob and wife Mary Russell, niece and nephew Jennifer and Matthew Russell of Hope, ME. He also leaves behind his daughter Rose and husband Steve Herczeg, grandchildren Ryan, Lindsay, Alec and Luke of Ponte Vedra, Fl; daughter Dorothy and husband Steve Manuszak , grandchildren Stephen, Kevin and Billy of Largo Florida;daughter Gail and husband Richard Sheldon,and grandchildren Barry, Eric, Danny,and Ben of Largo, Fl; his son Ensign William A. Russell, USN (presently serving in Iraq as Liaison to the Multi-National Forces), wife Kim Russell, and grandchildren William, Jonathan, Matthew, Christopher and Meredith, of Virginia Beach, VA ; daughter Meghan and husband James Mattern of Whitehall, PA; and daughter Courtney Russell of Port Jervis, NY.
Having a lifelong career as a specialist medical equipment technician, Bill was last employed by Bon Secours Hospital Systems prior to his illness.He was a devout member of St. James Episcopal Church. He also was a volunteer firefighter with Goodwill Hook and Ladder Company, Warwick, NY and Dikeman Engine and Hose Company, Goshen, NY.
A devoted and loving father, Bill will be greatly missed by his children, family, friends and fellow parishioners. He was always supportive of his children. We have learned through his eyes to never give up and to fight til the end. He will always be known as the strongest man we know, mentally and physically. He also leaves behind his cat Tommy, friend and faithful companion.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 4, 2008 from 1pm - 3:30pm at Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church St., Goshen New York. Following visitation there will be a memorial service held at St. James Episcopal Church, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. James Episcopal Church in his memorium.
