Obituary of Howard Neils

Howard Neils, 79, of Goshen, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Orange Regional Medical Center-Arden Hill Campus, Goshen, NY. Howard was born January 11, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA the son of William Neils and Emma Frame Neils. Howard proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from there in 1955, he also attended the graduate school of the New School of Social Research in New York, NY. Howard was a 40 year area resident, an avid history buff and most recently worked at the Goshen Historical Society, a job that he enjoyed immensely. He was an active member of the Democratic Party and recently served as a member of the Goshen Democratic Committee. Howard is survived by his wife Orvokki Vikki Neils at home; son, Kurt J. Neils of Hamburg, PA; daughter, Lynn A. Neils of Glen Ridge, NJ; brother William K. Neils of Cummings, GA; 2 sisters, Barbara Potter of St. Augustine, FL and Patti Harter of Ephrata, WA; 6 wonderful grandchildren, Ashley, Emma, Sophie, Ryan, Claire and Jason; 3 nieces and 2 nephews. He was predeceased by his son Eric G. Neils. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church St., Goshen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Howards name to the American Cancer Society, 419 East Main Street, Ste. 307B, Middletown, NY 10940.
