Dear Delia and Family,
I am sorry to read about your Mom. We grew up hearing from our mother, Lisa Bowles, about being in New York and their adventures working and living in the city. Before my parents were married, my mother was to travel to Chatham for a summer visit with others from the city who all knew my father. It was your mother who organized a shopping expedition in Manhattan to buy a bathing suit, which my mother would need. The bathing suit in 1952 cost $35 - a whole week's pay. As children this seemed extravagant and had us a little in awe of “Aunt Helen.” Your mother was spirited and full of lively interest. I saw her last in August 1990 in Chatham; I recall her being relaxed and happy and I’m glad for that memory.
Love,
Kathy
