like some other posters, I was late to hearing the sad news. My most sincere condolences.
Although I only knew Barbara through the training she did at the NYC-DOE while I worked there in City Wide Speech Services, I found her take on visual supports to be invaluable and also greatly enjoyed speaking to her on a personal level. She was a wonderful, brilliant person who will be greatly missed.

I am so very sorry to hear this tragic news. There are no words. Barbara has (and always will be) a very special person to our family. She was Daniel's very first speech therapist - (18 years ago) and will be remembered as the one who really understood him very early on (as a preschooler) and who helped us navigate through the initial heartbreak and challenges of autism from the beginning. Not only did she teach him (and us) to communicate more effectively - but we were all able to recognize and cherish many of his unique strengths through her intervention. There is no one who will ever fill her shoes. Not only was she was kind, gifted, talented, giving, and professional- but she made everyone that she worked with feel very special. She will never be forgotten and has left a huge impact on this world through her work with autism families everywhere. We will carry her in our heart forever. God bless you all

Dear Barbara's Family and Friends,
I offer you my sincerest condolences on the passing of Barbara, what a truly wonderful lady. As the mother of a past student in the STRIVE program, I attended any training session offered by Barbara, leaving with new approaches and an overall sense of encouragement. This truly came from Barbara's remarkable skills which she so graciously shared and her caring nature, which seemed to touch everyone. It was a great pleasure to have known her.

Dear family of Barbara, I knew Barbara through our common work in the world of Autism. Her delightful spirit and wide open heart touched me deeply every time we worked together. As we chant in the Greek Orthodox tradition, "May her memory be eternal, dear sister"

I first knew Barbara Bloomfield from reading the articulately written Speech and Language Evaluation reports she wrote for individuals with autism while she worked at the Developmental Evaluation Center in Wilmington, NC decades ago. At that time, she was a newly hired speech and language pathologist. She was the first professional in my experience to use the term "pragmatic language disorder" to describe the communication difficulties associated with a diagnosis of autism.
By chance, I met Barbara in person shortly before her Wilmington departure. She told me about her husband's retirement, saying he was given "The Golden Handshake" from his employer and that they would soon be moving away. She talked lovingly about her daughter who, I think, was a student at UNC CH at the time.
Some years later, Barbara became known for her useful ideas and effective visual strategies she designed to support students with autism. She was always generous with her time and materials in her workshops, and teachers appreciated the ideas they could take back to their classrooms. She would be thrilled to know Wilmington TEACCH continues to share her ideas and strategies in our work with individuals with autism and their families.
Barbara's life deserves recognition for her endeavors and accomplishments, and celebration for her kind, generous and compassionate spirit. She was a positive, thoughtful, and gifted person who will be easy to remember as a professional and difficult to forget as an exceptional human being.

To the Bloomfield Families & her Friends:
I, too, was so very fortunate to have met and worked with Barbara. She was one of those rare people who grace the Earth in so many ways... bright, kind, loving, generous, witty, gentle, confident, inspiring and such a classy woman.
I will hold onto the memories of our time together! I always looked forward to seeing her. Thank you for sharing her with us, here in Southern California. As she traveled, I know it was hard on her and all of you to have her away. Yet we know, it was her passion to teach & to share with so many!
Sending my heartfelt condolences & prayers

Dear Doug, Amanda and family - and to Maureen Ryan
The strongest hugs and love are sent to you from across the miles.
Special lady, special times, great memories - what a gift Barbara has given us.
I am truly thankful that Stephanie, Ben and Andrew had the chance to know her and to truly appreciate all that she was in herself and how she was one half of a wonderful union. Dear Doug we love you and will tell you that when we next meet.
So many cosy conversations, so many glorious shared meals and experiences as we combined work and recreation when we could -in North Carolina, New York City, Goshen, South Africa and Northern Ireland and so much shopping. That trip to us here to Fermanagh for Stephanie and Ben's wedding - how special that was for us here.
Barbara lived her life joyously and thoughfully.
Many of Barbara's friends and colleagues in Autism here in Northern Ireland have expressed their sadness at Barbara's passing but every single person has followed that swiftly with their thankfulness at the generosity, warmth, energy, creativity and unique skill that she extended towards them during the many years that she travelled to us to share her knowledge to make life better for autistic children.
Barbara touched so many lives and in the training that she did she has ensured that her legacy across the Atlantic will be preserved because it is now embedded in our services.
God blessed us all in letting us have the time we had with Barbara.
God bless and comfort you now and always.
'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you,not as the world giveth, give I unto you...' (John14 v27)
All our love
Arlene, Stephanie, Andrew and Ben.

Doug, Amanda and family,
I cannot begin to express my sincere sympathy at this time. Barbara was so special to me and all who had the wonderful opportunity to be in her company. I have spent the last few days just reviewing the many trips we took, the projects we undertook and all the great times we had. She is one of the very few people I would call a best friend and her spirit will always live in my heart. We shared so many memories and she taught me more than I will ever realize. I truly loved her inside and out. I will miss her but hope to continue to share her vision to improve the lives of individuals with ASD by presenting and educating. We had talked a few weeks ago about my doing some give-aways for an upcoming conference. She always felt it was essential to have participants leave with something they can use right away so they could immediately see the value of visuals. I will continue that tradition in her name and will share her name with participants who will never get to meet her but will continue to learn from her.
Please know I will be here for all of you whenever I can do anything for you. You are a very special family that I am honored to have shared time with and to know. God bless you all ❤️
