With deep condolences to the McMonigle Family.
I remember we met Bill McMonigle at the Peekskill St. Patrick's Day Parade, a few months later he became a great addition to our bagpipe band for many years. With Bill's service to his Country, his City, his Community and his Family, President Reagan must have been speaking about Bill when he said "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in this world. Marines don't have that problem."

My name is John Gallagher and I was sad to hear of William's passing. His brother George and I were in the same class in Queen of Angels school in Sunnyside. I grow up on 48th st they lived on 49th. Last time I saw him was in the police academy in 1969. I was graduating and his class was just coming in. I worked in Brooklyn for 5yrs then in the south bronx. I have resided in Warwick for 47 yrs and had no idea that a fellow sunnysider lived so close again sorry for your loss.

Bill was a wonderful person, and enjoyed working with him in the High School. I was pretty much fresh off the boat back from Ireland, and enjoyed talking about different aspects of the old ways - Scottish and irish. I remembered at Christmas - the Ginger bread raffles, how he would buy the tickets, and give a lot of the kids one, and if he won - he would give it to someone who had nothing. His heart was huge and golden. He looked out for everyone and if something needed to be done, you could rely on Bill to have your back and lend a hand. Going to miss his friendly familiar face . To all his family - I extend our sympathies- and in Irish Gaelic.... Ar dhèis de go raibh an anam agus ina croì go deo na ndeo

We both want to express our condolences to your entire family . Bill and you and your children have been such a big part of our "Church Family" for so many years. Many memories, but most of all Bill in his uniform playing the bagpipes and Bill in his black and white robes serving on the Altar at St. James. He did so much for the Church . May God grant you peace and strength during this difficult time. Jim and Barbara Cassel

Each morning, I could always count on Bill's, "Good morning" as I walked by him. He was one of my favorite people in the school. One of the things I will miss most is when he got on the loudspeaker for Veterans Day to remind everyone of the meaning, as well as mention the staff members at the HS ehi have served. He was someone all of us could count on if we needed anything. I feel blessed to have known him all the years I've worked with him. I know for me, and so many of us at the High School, he will be sorely missed. I am so very sorry for your loss. Keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
With deepest sympathies,
Caryn Yonker

Bill was a one of kind guy that was always there when you needed him. He shared his smile, heart, and gave of himself in any way that was asked of him. He put others first and was always willing to lend a hand. He will never be forgotten and will be remembered by all as a well respected gentleman and friend. My condolences to his family.

As a PBHS alum ('03) I am saddened to hear about Big Bill, or "Big Dog" as we called him. What a sincere, funny, and kind guy. We always felt safe with him around. I wish I got to know him better but from all of the stories and memories I have seen, I am sure our communities will miss him very much.

To the McMonigle family,
Bill was one of my most favorite people at PBHS. He always made me feel safe and valued. We would talk about everything and share stories with each other. I knew Bill for over 20 years. I met him on my very first day of teaching and of my career when a fight broke out in my room and I didn’t know what to do. I opened the classroom door and yelled for help. Then “Big Bill” as he was nicknamed came around the corner and helped me out. He asked if I was new and if I was tough enough to grab one of the crazy girls swinging and punching. I said yes and he said “I like you already” and off to the office we went with the two fighting girls. He never forgot those who served our country and he was humble about his own service to the community and our nation. He would always help me with the holiday food drives that my Youth in Government kids and I would conduct every year. He would help out so much and make generous donations to help out those less fortunate. I feel a great sadness and void because he meant so much to me. Our district was in safe hands because of his calm and caring nature. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. He taught me to be a better person and to never take anything for granted. He loved his family so much and was so dedicated to them. Rest In Peace my friend and know that you have left a very memorable mark on everyone you met.
Sincerely,
Charlene Webster

Dear Genie, Billy, Sammy and family,
I can't express in words how sorry I am on hearing of the passing of "Coach". He was truly a giant of a man. He loved his family so very much. He was so proud of his children, and adored his grandchildren. Everything that he did was to the best of his ability. What a great role model for everyone. I loved him like my own brothers. Bill meant so much to my family. He made everyday at school a pleasure for all. I will always keep him and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I have known Bill for 18 years. First as my high school security officer (S2) and then as my best friends dad. I lost my Dad last year and Bill has always been like a father like to me. He will be greatly missed not only by his family but the entire community. A highly respected man, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Marine, and police office. I will be missing you very much! Have a beer with Dad and Big Bear! We love you and miss you. God bless and continue to watch over your family. You will be greatly missed!
