Obituary of Miguel A. Escobar

Miguel A. Escobar (Michael, Mike)
Miguel A. Escobar of Goshen, NY, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
He was born on May 8,1948, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and was the son of the late Abraham Escobar and the late Maria Vega.
Mike grew up at St. Dominic's in Blauvelt and Pius XII School in Chester and graduated from Warwick High School. After graduation, Mike enlisted in the Army and served in the 82nd Airborne unit and as a Green Beret in the Army Special Forces during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1971.
After his stint in the Army, he attended Dominican College on the GI Bill and graduated as a social worker. Mike joined the New York State Police in 1979. He worked out of Troop F, Monroe barracks, and retired 20 years later as an investigator with the Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Mike believed in loyalty and has been a lifelong member of: the Association of Former New York State Troopers-Tri-state Chapter (Treasurer), Orange County Shields, American Legion Post 377, Disabled Veterans Association, Vietnam Veterans Association, 82nd Airborne Division Association (Walter E. Hughes Tri-State Mid-Hudson Chapter).
Married for 41 years, he is survived by his loving wife Terry, beloved daughter Shaunna L Escobar, MD, MPH, CPH, EMHL and her partner Corey Christensen, brother Abe and sister-in-law Marena Escobar of Middletown and their sons, Brian/Sara Escobar (Hayley, Sophia, AJ) and Michael/ Denise Escobar (Matteo).
He will be lovingly remembered by his in-laws Jack and Bobbi Gartner, Joe Gartner, Kathy and Lance Raffe (Kaitlyn, Brenna), Jim and MaryAnne Gartner (James/Alyssa) and cousins Rich Roper (Nicole, Christine, Katie).
Mike gathered friends who became family, Vito/Lisa Russo (Kaitlyn, Vito, Matthew), Rosie Horn/Denis (Samantha, Walter), Magda Russo, Helen Huffman, Jenny/Marc Sorondo (Kayla, Aidan, Maddie, Sophie, Liam), the Vyskocil family, the Irizarryfamily, his many State Troopersfriends, and his Pius brothers. He will be remembered by these people and so many more because as Nat King Cole would sing, Mike was "Unforgettable".
Visitation will be Monday, September 26 from 5-8 pm, Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church St, Goshen, NY. A Mass of Christian burial to celebrate Mike's life will be held at 9:30 am on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY. Burial to follow at Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
