Obituary of Paul E. Wright

Paul E. Wright, 84, of Goshen, died at home, leaving this world to be with God, in all his peace and glory. Paul was born May 23, 1928 in Preble, NY, the son of Wellington and Hilda (Edinger) Wright. He graduated from Homer High School in 1944, Princeton University in 1948, and with a Master's in Teaching (Music) from NYU in 1969. Paul will be best remembered as a music teacher at Goshen High School. During his 30 years of teaching there, he also directed 30 Broadway Musicals from "High Button Shoes" to "Camelot." Paul was the director of music at the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen, and presided over as many as seven church choirs at a given time, including two hand bell choirs. In his career he provided music for other churches - including Methodist and Catholic, as well as a synagogue. Goshen's music man was in high demand as an entertainer, playing for such disparate audiences as those attending the NBA's Syracuse Nationals, accompanying stars such as Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin and playing off-Broadway shows. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Phyla Weyant Wright; 5 children: Nadine Post (Don) of Warrensburg, NY, Gail Vriesema (Henry Jr.) of New Hampton, NY, Julie Turi of Goshen, NY, Steven Wright (Dely) of Barrington, NH, and David Wright (Cindy) of Gettysburg, PA; 11 grandchildren: Sarah Post Hohmann (Drew), Brian Post, Elizabeth Vriesema Schmidt (Peter), Henry Vriesema III (Leanne), Rebecca Vriesema Monaco (Anthony), Scott Turi, Brett Turi (Elizabeth), Nicholas Turi, Shaina Wright, Kylie Wright, and Samantha Wright; 6 great-grandchildren; his sister, Marilyn Twentyman Stoker of Homer, NY, his brothers, Donald Wright and William Wright (Sue) of Preble, NY, and several nieces and nephews. The family invites those who knew Paul to celebrate his life with his family by attending: A Memorial Visitation on Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 1-3 PM & 6-8 PM at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Memorial Service on Monday, December 10, at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 33 Park Pl., Goshen, NY with the Reverend David Kingsley officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Church Columbarium.
