As kids, Aunt Madeline always had a smile for us and made us feel welcome in her home. Condolences to the Applegate family.

For as long as I can remember, Mrs. Applegate has always been there for my family. She would always be cooking me and my sister pasta, taking us to the park, and leading us on peanut hunts. Even after Mrs. Applegate became increasingly older and had trouble getting around after her stroke, she would always insist on making us cookies. She would go through so much trouble in making three different kinds and either send them to us a couple times a year, or give them to us when we drove up to visit her. Those cookies became the taste of my childhood. To me and my sister, Mrs. Applegate was never just our babysitter, but she was our grandmother. She was the most compassionate, selfless lady that I have ever met and will probably ever meet. I will dearly miss her, but it's safe to say that anyone who has ever met her will also mourn the loss of such a kindred spirit. God bless. Please rest in peace and I will always love you.

Dear Mrs. Applegate,
You are my American Mommy. When we moved to Goshen, you welcomed us and took care of our children and us. You were always ready to help, listen, and give your love to everyone. I got to go to work and have a career, and did not worry about leaving the children with you because you gave them love and great food. They enjoyed staying with you and Papa Jim, and have great happy memories growing up in NY. We love you. We will miss you so much. May God be with you. With love, Ascen and Mike

Thank you so much for taking care of me when I was little. I'll never forget the trips to the park or the peanut hunts every Easter. Thank you for all the cookies you've sent us. You've helped shape me into the person I am today. I'll miss you and I love you.

When we bought Mom & Dad's home across from the Applegate's it was like I'd never left. Both Mrs. Applegate and Poppa Jim welcomed both Bryan and Shelby into their home when Shelby wasn't even 2 so I could continue to work. She helped a very nervous mother get through days knowing that everyone was being taken care of. Most days they would come home with their treasures. We still have "3 Jesus in a walnut shell" on our Christmas tree every year! Our thoughts and prayers go out to JoAnne, Jimmy, and Theresa for your loss.
