Obituary of Madeline T. Applegate

Madeline Applegate of Goshen, entered into rest on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Nyack Hospital, Nyack, NY. Madeline was born December 23, 1927 in North Plainfield, NJ, the daughter of Angelo and Teresina (Carfagna) Sansone. She was the widow of James J. Applegate, Sr. who predeceased her July 22, 2013. She is survived by her children, Theresa Applegate and spouse Jeanne Scott of Cathedral City, CA, JoAnn Applegate of Goshen, NY, and James J. Applegate of Goshen, NY; sisters, Josephine Welter and Marie Cox; sisters-in-law, Josephine Kuncewitch, Agnes Fox, and Dolores Doktorski and husband John; brothers in-law Arthur Applegate; Leo Applegate and wife Eleanor, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Andrew Welter and John Cox. Madeline was a very devoted and loving wife and mother. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Goshen, NY and the American Legion Auxiliary in Middletown, NY. Madeline and her husband, Jim, volunteered at Bingo at the Valley View Nursing Home. They were very active with the Orange County Right to Life. She was involved and giving to the local Veterans Food Pantry. She was a devoted Catholic and an active parishioner at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Goshen, NY. She loved children and operated her own day care center from her home. Many of the children loved her so much they still visited her. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and loved being home with her family. Madeline also loved all animals. Visitation will be Friday, June 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY. Burial will be in the Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, NY next to her husband, James, who was a U.S. Army Veteran. A celebration of life/repast will be held following the burial (approximatel 1:45 pm) at the Goshen Senior Center, 100 Trotter Circle in the Village of Goshen behind the police station. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Madeline's name to St. John's the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Avenue, Goshen, NY 10924 or United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956. Arrangements are under the care of the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., Goshen.
